IT / ITES and automobile hub Gurgaon, that
boasts of playing host to 100 out of the180
Fortune 500 companies in India have been projected
to be the home of 200 such companies in the
next five years. A joint study by the Associates
of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham)
and Deloitte on the Industrial prospects of
Gurgaon, has claimed that by 2010 over 40
per cent of the Fortune 500 companies in India
will operate out of Gurgaon. At present 20
per cent of such companies have a base in
Gurgaon. The study has also made a fervent
appeal to Haryana to improve its infrastructure
to keep pace with the changing scenario. |

To retain the interest of investors, Haryana
will have to make massive improvements in its
transport sector, providing world-class facilities
to industrial complexes and clusters, develop
a modern public transport system,& ensure
24 hours water and electricity supply and improved
civic amenities besides meeting the demands in
housing and office space, the study states. A
similar study published jointly last year by the
CII and Hewitt had also pointed out that Haryana
lacks on the infrastructure front. According to
the Assocham study, the state will attract investment
worth Rs. 2,00,000 lakh croress and generate jobs
for 10 lakh people.
Assocham president, Anil K. Agarwal said the
feedback received from various leading players
and Fortune 500 companies indicate that by 2010,
their presence will be more than double to over
40 per cent.
The findings of the study reveal Gurgaon will
have the potential to employ about four lakh people
by 2010 in sectors like ITES, automobile, manufacturing,
banking, & textiles, readymade and petrochemical.
In India, the market for software services and
ITES exports will projected to touch Rs 270,000
crores by 2010, from an estimated Rs 54,000 crores
towards the end of 2006.In 2005, six new large
and medium industrial units and 556 small scale
industrial units, involving an investment of Rs
820 crores has been set up a shop in Haryana.
It also received investment proposals worth Rs
10,000 crores including an investment assurance
of Rs 2,200 crores, from South Korean and Japanese
companies, says the study while Sujuki is setting
up a diesel engine project, the German automaker
Volkswagen is also considering investment in Haryana
to the tune of Rs 1,500 crores. In fact in the
automobile sector, Haryana has the proud distinction
of producing around 66 percent of the cars, 66percent
of the motorcycles and 50 percent of the tractors
produced in India.
Some of the leading the fortune 500 Companies
that currently operate out of Gurgaon include
Microsoft, Alcatel, Wiper, TCS, Flexitronics,
IBM, Maruti, Genpact and American Express.
